Silver Needle from JunShan, Hunan province is one of China’s top 10 famous teas.

The first record of Silver Needle was discovered in the Tang Dynasty - it also became the royal tea in the Qing Dynasty.

JunShan are the islands in the DongTing Lake in the YueYang County in the Hunan province.

JunShan has fertile sandy that is suitable for tea growth. The average temperature in that area is 16 to 17 Celsius (60 to 62 Fahrenheit) degrees all year long, with 1340 mm (53 inches) annual precipitation.

Water evaporation from the DongTing Lake during the spring and the summer, the air is filled with humidity, which are the best natural environments for the tea growth.

JunShan Silver Needle teas were divided into the 'Tip Tea' and the 'Velvet Tea' during the Qing Dynasty.

The 'Tip Tea', is shaped like a sword and when there is a white feather around the rim of the tea leaves, it is called 'Royal Tip' (royal tea).

JunShan Silver Needle teas have a fresh aroma with a yellowish liquor after brewing.

After brewing, tea buds are hung vertically in the cup, arising and sinking continuously. It usually sinks and arises 3 times.

JunShan Silver Needle tea is picked three to four days before the QingMing Festival (usually early April in the Chinese lunar calendar). JunShan Silver Needles tea leaves are usually fresh young buds that are 25-30 mm in length. Most of our blooming teas carried are made from the JunShan Silver Needle tea leaves.
